Pearls have been prized for centuries, they are nearly as important as diamonds, one of natures great accidents. At one point in time pearls were even crushed and swallowed for their assumed medicinal and restorative properties curing every disease from stomach ulcers to cholera. Pearls in jewellery in the Victorian era were associated with a number of symbols such as innocence, purity, humility and harmony.
